One more year and as every October 19, we celebrate International Breast Cancer Day, and there are still many myths and truths around it. Some think it has to do with age, life habits, hereditary genes…, but nothing could be further from the truth.
The word cancer itself is still a taboo, and the lack of awareness about its prevention or detection means it remains a matter we don’t consciously address until it happens to us or someone close to us.

Today, 90% of cases detected on time can be treated and cured, as evidenced by the data. So we can say that, in the absence of a definitive cure for breast cancer, the most effective fight against the disease is early detection.

That's why today we want to introduce you to these 6 fighters, full of light and courage with their personal stories telling you, bluntly, about the myths they’ve debunked and the barriers they’ve overcome.

A call to conscience and prevention. Listen to it.

Carolina, 36

‘Let them enjoy, live, but being aware that cancer exists and can affect anyone.’ ‘I always say, go to the doctor, because it’s a timely diagnosis that can save our lives.’

Lolit, 42

‘At school, we should be taught to be aware of cancer, and to know it doesn’t only affect women. It’s increasingly affecting more men too.’ ‘Living to the fullest but looking after our health, as, without it, we can’t do anything else.’

Marcela, 55

‘Early detection together with research is what can save our lives.’ ‘My daughter was 6 when I was diagnosed and now, at 19, she’s fully aware of self-examination.’

Yasmina, 28

‘You think, but why me? But it should really be, why not? What is special about me to avoid cancer?’

Cristina, 33

‘As soon as you start your period, you should start self-examination. If I’d been taught this before, perhaps I’d have been more watchful.’

Gisela, 25

‘Because some people talked to me about it and I started to examine myself, I saved myself.’
